Environment
Good Environment is a pre-requisite for the survival of life on Earth. Environmental protection is the moral duty of every human being on this planet, rather it’s not only environmental protection indirectly it is about protecting ourselves from major loss. Things that are doing harm to the environment such as working in industries or factories, commuting via fuel-driven vehicles, using air conditioners, etc have become an essential part of our lives. Factors that are major contributors to the degradation of environment are-
Over Population- Many parts of our planet are being over populated by human population. Over population means more demands and less supply. This creates an imbalance and disturbs the ecosystem as for human survival and other species.
Pollution- Increased population leads to increased waste to make the supplies reach the required rate. This wastes level leads to air and water pollution. The condition of pollution is so bad that to date, 2.4 billion people do not have access to clean, drinkable water.

Global Warming- The major cause for this is the increased level of CO2, and that is because of the increased rate of burning of fossil fuels. Current measurements of CO2levels have exceeded above 400 ppm breaking every record dating back 400,000 years. And this has led to increase in earth’s temperature, which leads to melting of glaciers and increase in ocean level to rise.
There are large number of NGOs in India and other countries that are exclusively working for environmental protection, conservation, and awareness. NGOs are now playing an important role in framing the environmental policy, mobilizing public support for environmental conservation, and protecting the endangered species of forests and animals. NGO’s contribute to the environmental protection in the following ways-
- Creating awareness among the public on current environmental issues and solutions.
- Being involved in the protection of human rights to have a clean environment.
- Analysis and monitoring of environmental quality.
- Transferring information through newsletters, brochures, articles, audio visuals, etc.
- Organizing seminars, lectures and group discussion for promotion of environmental awareness.
